British Sign Language Week at Mildmay

This week is national Sign Language Week and we have been celebrating our #deafaware community with a variety of activities. Woodpecker 1 and Woodpecker 6 have been learning to fingerspell their own names, Owl 1 had a signed storytime and learned to sign along with 'The Snail and the Whale', Woodpecker R made a video about their BSL learning (see it on our Instagram account @mildmay.primary) and the whole of the upper school sang and signed the Alphabet Song in assembly.

Add to that a visit from our Voice21 (oracy) liaison who was fascinated by our inclusive approach to classroom talk, supported by signs for our talk tactics and, all in all it has been a massive week of Signing Celebration.

Every week is Sign Language week at Mildmay Primary School.
