Themed Days (and weeks)

At Mildmay Primary School, we like to extend the curriculum with a range of themed days. These give the children a break from their regular timetable and class curriculum in order to explore something different along with the rest of the school.
Assemblies and display boards are used to share ideas around these and celebrate them.
Themed days bring learning to life in extravagant and dramatic ways! Themed days (eg. Egyptian, Viking, Stone Age, Victorian) may see Year 3 clad in togas and self-made jewellery, Year 5 experiencing the austerity of a Victorian classroom or other year groups exploring a theme via craft & creativity, display, physical activity, costume or drama and bringing their topic to life in a special way.
Our themed days may focus on:
A subject or topic (eg. Science Week, Spanish Day, Viking Day)
Mental Health Awareness eg. Hello Yellow Day
Something topical eg Fitness Day including a visiting successful sports person to talk with the children and lead them in sports activities.
World Book Day – celebrating reading, authors and character favourites
A part of the National Calendar eg Anti-bullying Day, Children in Need.
