Mildmay Primary School

with a Resource Base for Deaf Children

“Growing, Caring and Learning Together”

Welcome

A rich history … an exciting future!

On behalf of the team at Mildmay Primary School, I am delighted to welcome you to our Resource Base for Deaf children.

There has been provision for deaf children at Mildmay for many years and we are proud of the foundations on which we continue to grow and evolve the provision within the newly created Primary School and with the ongoing support of Bridge Academy Trust.

The specialist provision, which is based in the lower school but supports deaf children from nursery to Year Six, has been purpose built and comprises a suite of acoustically treated rooms intended specifically for the purpose of teaching deaf children.  We are a team of qualified and experienced teachers of the deaf, an educational audiologist and specialist learning support assistants, who have access to a range of resources, including the most up-to-date audiology equipment, dedicated to meeting the individual needs of our deaf learners, whilst also supporting their social and emotional wellbeing.

Alongside other external professionals, including speech and language therapists and a BSL tutor, the specialist team work in partnership with the children, their families and main school staff towards our aim for deaf children to be fully included in the whole school community.

We treat our children as individuals and support them to become independent learners who understand their deafness, are proud of who they are and are able to advocate for themselves in preparation for the next steps of the educational journey into secondary school and beyond.

We hope that you enjoy browsing our pages and can find everything you need to know.  If you would like to know more, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

We look forward to meeting you.

Mrs. Verity Turner

Head of Resource Base,

Qualified Teacher of the Deaf and Advanced SENCo
