“Growing, Caring and Learning Together”

Year Two

Spring Term

It has been another busy term in Puffin 2. We loved our topic 'Exploring the World'. We learnt about continents, oceans and different countries around the world. We also learned about some important people from around the world and from the past including Nelson Mandela and Amelia Earhart.

Science week was so much fun. We had a visit from Poncho and Pluto the alpacas and a variety of minibeasts also came to school! Perhaps you took a risk and touched one of the minibeasts like Mr Mulholland did!

We made moving monsters In DT which enabled us to learn about pivots, levers and linkages. In Art we explored creating texture in paint and collage making. We loved our spring flower art too.

Autumn Term

What a busy term! We really enjoyed our history topic 'London's Burning'. We have been exploring key questions that enabled us to find out what life was like in London in 1666 and to learn key facts about the fire. It was so much fun chalking the fire on the playground and using water squirts to try to put it out!

In science we learnt about materials. We enjoyed taking an autumn walk to collect natural materials. We used the natural materials to create Andy Goldsworthy inspired art.

In science we also conducted an experiment to find out what conditions seeds need to grow. We found out that they need water and warmth to germinate but that they need light to remain healthy.

In DT we have been learning about stability and how some shapes are more stable than others. We made a chair for baby bear using paper rolled into cylinders.

We had a lot of fun on a snowy week creating snowmen- out of real snow, a DT activity using socks and a science activity using marshmallows!
