“Growing, Caring and Learning Together”

School Council & Pupil Voice

The Mildmay School Council members are elected at the beginning of each school year. Pupils put themselves forward for nomination and perform a short speech to advise their classmates on why they would make a good school councillor. Classes then vote for who will represent them on the School Council. School Council members meet regularly to discuss a variety of issues, including: school resources, fund-raising ideas, school meals, events and uniform.

The School Council discussed the role of the council, the qualities of a school councillor and any ideas they had for projects. They set aims for the school year.

The school council reflected on the goals they set this year and the progress they have made towards them. So far they have: set up the Library Shed, made a plan for spending the funds raised from the book sale and discussed ideas for future fund-raising. They are working towards supporting wider school improvement plans by helping to maintain the tidiness of the school libraries to boost the status of reading in school and have plans to support Reception with their outdoor area.

In 2024, the School Council held a book drive and received hundreds of donations of good quality, second-hand books. They then held a second-hand book sale to raise funds. Class councillors spoke to their classes about what they would like to spend the money on and the vote was for Speed Stack Cups for wet play.

This year the School Council have set up a library shed outside the lower school playground. They regularly maintain and restock the library, which has been very popular with the school community.

The school council have helped Reception with their outdoor area improvement plans by supporting the set up of their ‘Digger Land’.
